This relatively new field, aviation bio-fuel, began in 2011. Although it is still in its infancy, there are many fuel alternatives to commercial jet fuel. Most of them are plant derivatives. While that seems to present some challenges with rubber parts in your plane engines, your airline can make conversions to its engines and tanks such that it can easily utilize bio-fuel. Additionally, the rubber alternatives also leave less of a carbon footprint because they require less processing during the recycling process. A few other things are positively affected by your switch to bio-fuel.
How Bio-fuels Would Set Your Airlines Apart in the U.S.
Currently, the major airlines in the United States do not use bio-fuels, nor do they use any mixture of bio-fuels and jet fuel. Despite the fact that there have been some test flights in the U.S. with bio-fuels, the American airlines are stuck on jet fuel. If you were to convert all of your planes to a bio-fuel, or at least a bio-fuel mix, this is something you could use in your advertising that would set you apart from all the rest of the airlines owned and operated in the U.S. (Several European airlines already use a mix of jet fuel and bio-fuel, or straight-up bio-fuel, to fly their planes.)
Your Airline Will Appeal to Eco-Loving Tourists
In conjunction with using bio-fuels, you can charge less for passenger flights and appeal to a greater number of eco-loving tourists. Although planes that use bio-fuels are not entirely "green", they are the only means of long-distance flight, and even the most intense conservationists cannot argue with that. They do, however, prefer that the flight they take is one that reduces CO2 emissions, noxious and poisonous gases, and utilizes fuels developed from previously abandoned agricultural real estate. If you can switch over and meet all of those demands, your passengers will then prefer your airline and planes to everyone else's.
Connecting Your Eco-Tourists to Eco-Friendly Destinations
Finally, you could take your bio-fuel planes and eco-loving tourists one step further to paradise by connecting the tourists to eco-friendly destinations. With the planes' conversions, you could contact tourism and travel boards, letting them know that you can provide flight service of the eco-friendly kind to destinations that such a class of tourists would really enjoy. You could even make connecting flights with international airlines that utilize aviation bio-fuels, increasing the public awareness of what your company is doing and what your company is attempting to do for everyone.
